Media and Communication Systems Department adopts a perspective that focuses on the academic and scientific education. This department is in cooperation with the other faculty departments. When compared with the other practice-oriented departments; Media and Communication Systems Department provides a theoretical perspective rather than practice only. In order to focus on the academic and scientific point of view, Media and Communication Systems Department is formed with the purpose of educating academicians, researchers and scientists. In this regard, this department has a function to create a scientific basis for the other departments of the faculty. On the other hand, it has a task to be considered as a base to all other departments given the content of the program.
Curriculum Structure of the Department
Curriculum of Media and Communication Systems Department is structured in the direction of the mission statement and the functions of the University. Accordingly, the department is a four-year bachelor degree program and a curriculum is formed to deliver basic courses on social sciences and communication sciences in the first two years and it is applied to constitute a scientific basis. Most of these courses are parallel with the courses of the other faculty departments.
In third and fourth grade, the students are aimed to gain theoretical and methodological formation about the communication sciences. Such as the other departments of the faculty, Media and Communication Systems students are obliged to take core courses and are allowed to take elective courses according to their fields of interest. Therefore, in the later years of the curriculum, the students will be free to select elective courses according to their interests from the other departments of core courses and elective courses.
Employment Opportunities of the Department
The students graduated from the department will gain solid academic background in the field of communication sciences. Thus, they will be able to advance in the academic field. Moreover, the students can be employed by all media sectors, public and private sectors, corporate communication, advertising and public relation sectors.
